Week 1 Recap

This is short and sweet and definitely not because I forgot to do it until this morning.

JW has to be in a state of disbelief after what Sam did to him this week. I mentioned in the season preview that Sam’s team had high upside and boy did he show it in week 1. Russ only had 23 pass attempts, but he still managed to cook finding Tyler Lockett for 2 of his 4 passing TD’s on the day. Deebo Samuel was the wide receiver of the week in San Francisco and made the most of his opportunities with 189 yards and a tuddy. A possibly record setting week was only stymied by Green Bay’s inability to get anything going on offense. Aaron Jones received 7 touches for 22 yards.

JW shouldn’t hang his head though.  His team put up the highest score in a losing effort and showed that they have the ability to compete. Mahomes did Mahomes things and both running backs look like workhorses for good teams. Jerry Juedy looked ready to break out in year 2 but will be on the sidelines for at least 6 weeks with a high ankle sprain. If he finds a little more touchdown luck, JW could have some big weeks with this team.

From the highest scoring game of the week to the lowest. Sam’s team outscored both of these shitters by himself.  In the preseason, I projected Corey as our eventual champion and he won so I’m taking a victory lap while absolutely ignoring context. It’s always hard to put up big weeks without a strong quarterback performance and Aaron Rodgers gave Corey absolutely nothing.  Deandre Hopkins was the only standout player with 2 scores and his usual allotment of targets. Though he had a ton of underperformers Corey will be glad to see a W on the board.

For Richburg we will start with the positives. He has the second least points against. Devonte smith looked about as good as any rookie could in the first game of the season. That’s all of the positives so lets move on to the negatives. This team looked terrible. Zeke got nothing going against the Bucs vaunted defense. Allen Robinson was completely shut down by Jalen Ramsey. Even the defense and kicker were terrible providing a combined 3 points. Richburg will have to coach up this team if he wants to have any chance to win in week 2.

As we talked about here in the preseason breakdown, Pat’s team is lead by its namesake. Kyler Murray showed out in week 1 putting up 5 total TDs. The running backs got big workloads in tough matchups, but Damien Harris fumbled basically losing the game for the patriots. Will Bill Belichick send him to the football underworld? Nobody knows. Devante Adams is basically the only player who underperformed and everyone knows that the packers will be just fine. This team is good and will be here for a while.

For Richie well I could just repost my preseason criticisms. Travis Kelce good, Gibson fine if underwhelming, big problems at RB2, underwhelming WR core. The only surprise for week 1 was CeeDee Lamb. If the Cowboys throw 58 times a game, CeeDee will be just fine. This team needs work and it needs it soon.

In the matchup of Jake Butt’s Tight End Cum Dumpster. Our two most perverted owners went head to head. No not those heads ya nastys. In an upset, Chandler set his lineup this week. And it did pay off for him. Patrick Mahomes loves Tyreek Hill almost as much as his brother loves doing weird tik tok dances. Everyone else did their job and Chandler goes to 1-0.

Tripp, on the other hand, did not set his lineup. People who don’t set their lineups don’t get breakdowns. Set your lineup.

The only matchup that was still up in the air by the time Monday night rolled around, this one showed the difference one performance can make. For Parker, Darren Waller showed out. 19 targets, 10 catches, 100 yards and he found the endzone. This is the kind of performance only 2 tight ends are really capable of putting up. On the other side, Mark Andrews had 3 catches for 20 yards.

Outside of Waller, Parkers team looks formidable. Christian Mccaffery did Christian Mccaffery things, wide receivers caught balls. The only weakness in this team looks to be the second running back.  Mike Davis is not good and Atlanta is bad. Mostert is out for the year (please don’t send him death threats). Melvin Gordon had a big week on Parkers bench, but 13 of his 19 points came on a garbage time 70 yard TD run. This team is good but there are questions about whether it can be great.

Wilburn may have lost week 1 but he shouldn’t be panicking. His role players were good but his studs were duds. This sounds bad but it is much better than the other way around. We know Derrick Henry, Justin Herbert and Mark Andrews are good. If he continues to get this level of production from the rest of his team, Wilburn will be looking at December Fantasy Football for the first time in a while.

This thing was put away on Thursday and I felt on top of the world. Then Sunday came and my entire team looked horrific.  James Robinson splitting carries with Carlos Hyde, Calvin and the Atlanta shit birds, Brandon Aiyuk being active but not playing. I’m gonna need Dallas to throw 60 times a week to compete. Basically this team is fucked but 1-0 is better than 0-1.

For Mike well,

The double Bucs receiver strategy does not work so well when Antonio  Brown is who Tom is looking for. In good news, the Lions are bad and are going to be down a lot. The lions have no wide receivers. T.J. Hockenson is going to absolutely clean up in garbage time this season. Matthew Stafford looks like a baller. Overall a middling week 1 performance but there are foreboding signs ahead.

Good bye and Good luck in week 2.
